The Shelter Program provides 30-day emergency stay for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. The location is confidential, allowing for increased client safety during their stay.
Who can use the services?
Any adult or child who lives or works in Hancock County and is a survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault is eligible to stay at the shelter with their immediate family. Open Arms shelter is the only one in Hancock County that provides immediate, temporary housing for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault and their children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Program Success In 2014:
100% of clients felt safer during residency
100% of people were more educated about domestic violence after residency
84% of people were less likely to return to an abuser after residence
Did you know…In 2014:
A total of 97 women and children lived at the shelter.
Over 5,200 people have been housed at the shelter since 1981 when it opened.
